Editors Fav Pick: October

Season after season, lace features on catwalks from New York to Paris. White crochet lace rules in summer, while in winter, red and black lace party dresses get us into the Christmas spirit.

Beyond expressing itself precious, lace is unique for its ability to embrace the betwixt and between, to narrate an ambiguous sense of femininity that is best told as a story where opposites are free to meet. Can you think of another fabric that encompasses two such opposite ends of the spectrum as readily as lace does? Both traditional and modern, demure and sexy, girlish and womanly, it’s no wonder it’s so popular with royal brides, Madonna and Italian designers, Dolce & Gabbana.

This months special is dedicated to a gown I just adore from the La Elegant new design collection.

I’m a sucker for anything romantic (yes from movies to novels to romantic styled dresses) reason why I fell in love with the layers of lace that this gown has to offer.

I must say that I grew up thinking lace made someone look cheap? Some of you may think I’m crazy but back then I guess I always saw lace on pieces I just hated so I guess I linked the two together? Oh how times have change! At present a lot of my dresses contain some sort of lace feature and it has become one of my favorite detailed design on dresses.

Lace has always had a particular allure in fashion. Striking from a distance, intriguing close up, lace lends an air of fragility to a garment, creating an illusion of delicacy that contributes astoundingly to its charm and elegance.

It is this element of luxury and sophistication that captured the imagination of forward-thinking fashionistas and designers in the 16th century. Lace became a marker of status. It was a sign of the changing fashions; the height of quality and style (I guess I hopped onto the lace band wagon a bit late).

I hope for all of those that may have never thought to try a full lace look, may be some how inspired by this months pick and just explore new lace looks and I guess become a bit more romantic.
