I’m sure a lot of my friends would laugh but I would remember planning my holiday in my head especially when I occasionally had a tough day, I began to reminisce on how soon I want my holiday to start and how I wanted an ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ moment where I simply packed sunscreen, an inspirational book, maybe 2 maxi dresses and 3 bikinis.
With my ideal concept of a boho vacation and self discovery journey, you might have pictured me with a backpack that probably weighed 10 kgs at most.
Well, this is how you know I am a fashion blogger! I reached for the back pack and as soon as I started picking garments that I thought I would need, I ended up with more than 10 different dresses, 6-8 shirt options with 1 pair of jeans, 4 pairs of shorts and 3 skirts.
This doesn’t include my laptop, DSLR camera, book, selfie stick, sunscreen, makeup, well you get the point…
I then upgraded to my hardshell trusty suitcase that I carry everywhere and as some of you may know, its tradition for me to get a sticker from every country I visit and place it on this suitcase so one day it can be 1 big travel momentum.
I know this may sound silly but you would be surprised how quickly you get back into the working world and your holiday then becomes a distant memory. Reason why little traditions, or carrying a journal to document your days can be so important. I normally take that one step further and like add of a tone of pictures and videos which I then collage when I get back home and once in a while when you look through it or watch the merged video, its recreates your adventures and reminds you how amazing this world can be and what you as a person can achieve when you travel.
Anyway, look at me rant on, I am here to advice you (in my opinion) what I think are the best items to pack for your holiday.
Ok so I insist you invest in a good camera! You will never regret it! The quality and the prints you could get after would be simply amazing and can result in wall art in your home or business. If you want to go that one step further, a Go Pro or simply a waterproof camera is amazing to film and take photos underwater or during adventure sports so you would have amazing shots and videos!
Carry clothes that you know don’t wrinkle easily, finding an iron in your hostel and hotel sometimes can be a pain (I could have sworn that all rooms used to have them back in the day).
Sunscreen or SPF makeup is vital! Days are hot and I am a firm believer in protecting your skin from the elements and the future you will thank you when other women/men around you are complaining about wrinkles and pigmentation in their skin.
Very comfortable sport shoes, sandals and 1 dressy pair of shoes are all you need (you basically cover all bases).
Count how many days you are there and if you really need 20 dresses for a 1 week holiday or if your internal flights will allow you a certain amount in baggage (remember, international flights always give you more but once you get to Europe the internal flights only allow you normally 20-25kgs).
Buy an adapter that can be used to charge your devices in any country you plan to visit or where you want the wind to blow you.
I would say thats the main level of advice I can give, depending on where you’re going as well…Hope you’re planning your next big adventure guys, and if you are and have any questions that hopefully I can answer, pop a comment below and I will get right to them.
